Everybody smiled when coming upon the stand – clients, visitors, and the assembly team alike.
The Client showed up two weeks before assembly and declared that they have extensive space, a lot of cool devices, a tiny budget, and a will to let me loose on all that. And then off the Client went for a week to deal with their own business? What would work? WORK!
We went through workshops and warehouses. I dragged out anything and everything which had been awaiting its time and was to be dumped more than once, but someone just couldn’t do it. All that was left was a shopping trip to a large decorations and accessories store, et voilà! Can we? YES, WE CAN!
Shop mannequin hands, vegetable bouquets, chalk drawings, a stuffed toy rat, left over project lamps – everything found its use. The result? Fun and games.
Once the fair was over, boy and girl scouts took our kitchen and bar – made of roughly bolted OSB panels, some painted, others not – to build and decorate their meeting rooms. Nothing was wasted!
We stood shiny catering equipment on delivery crates, as if it had been taken out just seconds before. The large oak table made tradesmen and customers feel cosy and at home.
Business talk was far from tedious in such relaxed settings. I don’t know if it was the fresh fruit and vegetable juice, or the fresh-smelling coffee, or the delicious yoghurt ice-cream eaten at the family table – but all devices on display found new owners. I am proud to have been part of the project.
