The International Defence Industry Exhibition in Kielce has been popular in the sector for many years. This is why I was so happy when Automotive Poland decided to attend three years running.
We were assigned an outdoor show and viewing area. We began with finding adequate roofing, which was no mean feat, given the plot area of 8 x 12 m. Fully equipped and accessorised Jeep off-road vehicles were to be the main attraction. I decided to recreate the setting of a centre of command at a military exercise site. All details were to project the surroundings: raw metal, khaki and camouflage colours, camouflage nets, raw timber, rockeries, rockery plants, etc.
I designed unusual business meeting space:
• seats: camouflage textile-covered logs;
• backrests: singed boards placed on empty diesel oil barrels, stood on empty ammunition chests.
The image was enhanced with wild apples picked by soldiers and a basket of wild flowers adorned with a missile fragment. While military exercise is military exercise, commanders need their comfort.
I used LED-illuminated dry smoke to augment the military action effect.
A smoke-singed arched wall conceals the usual support area fitted with full kitchen furnishings.
The project was used extensively for three years with slight modifications
